Why Not Just Make Some Shit Up?

The director general of the IAEA called into question the authenticity of some of the "evidence" of Iraq's nuclear weapons program provided to them by US and British intelligence.

Knowledgeable sources familiar with the forgery investigation described the faked evidence as a series of letters between Iraqi agents and officials in the central African nation of Niger. The documents had been given to the U.N. inspectors by Britain and reviewed extensively by U.S. intelligence.

The forgeries were apparently poorly done, with simple things like positions and names were used on incorrect dates. The IAEA is quick to qualify that they do not blame the US or Britian for creating these forgeries. However, given this administrations previous use of loose facts and half-truths, is it possible they knew the documents were forgeries but figured the IAEA would not know the difference? Can you trust any of the supposed secretly held intelligence that proves the Iraqi-WMD link?

Possibly, if Hans Blix's report of Iraq drone planes of undeclared capacities are true. These remote power vehicles could be used for biological or chemical weapons, and are "restricted by the same UN rules as missles": 150 km. Colin Powell has previously informed the UN Security Council that he had evidence "Iraq had test-flown a drone in a race-track pattern for 500km non-stop". The US government are outraged at Blix for not mentioning it in his oral presentation to the Security Council. They have questioned his objectivity, and accused him of attempting to bury the information "in a 173-page single-spaced report distributed later" that day.

I'd rather reply here, as there are currently fewer comments, and my stellar wit won't get lost among the detritus.

But I don't have anything to say.
